Istanbul - KUNA

Turkey's public sector workers union announced on Tuesday holding a two-day strike to protest what it called "state terror" against anti-government demonstrations. The union strictly condemned the governmental violence against protesters, expecting other workers' syndicates to respond to their call for strike. The strike that will kick off today and expected to end by Wednesday, includes all governmental institutions, universities, and schools. As clashes between protesters and the Turkish police reach its fifth consecutive day, voices are raised against Erdogan's cabinet policies. Protests are resulting with hundreds of policemen and protesters being injured. The clashes started last Friday when a protest calling for halting the governmental constructions in Gezi public Park, Taksim Square in Istanbul, turned suddenly to an anti-government protest. Other Turkish cities responded and organized a number of protests as well opposing the policies of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. A Turkish citizen aged 22 years old passed away in a hospital in southern Turkey, after being shot during his participation in a protest in Hatay governorate adjacent to the borders with Syria. The death toll reached two since the outburst of protests against Erdogan's government last week.
