Ayushmann Khurrana dabbled in television as he waited for his big-screen break. He's not alone. tabloid! gives you a round-up of anchors-turned-actors who have dotted the Bollywood map. While some flourished, others perished under intense competition. Here's a look: Shenaz Treasurywala Last seen in Aamir Khan's Delhi Belly as Imran Khan's fiance, Treasurywala was known as one of the chirpiest VJs on MTV India. In 2003, she made her debut in Shahid Kapoor's launch pad, Ishq Vishq. The film was a hit, but the spotlight was all on Kapoor. She has now moved on to screenplay writing. Her last work was Luv Ka the End. She wrote the script and also made a cameo in the film. Ayushmann Khuranna He owes his popularity to video jockeying on channel MTV. But when it came to making the transition to the big-screen with the film Vicky Donor, he had to undergo a process of unlearning. The Punjabi-born television presenter has chosen a rather unusual launch pad. In his debut film releasing Thursday, Khurrana plays Vicky – a sperm donor who falls in love with a Bengali girl. Mahima Chaudhry Bollywood's veteran director Subhash Ghai spotted Ritu Chaudhry while she was hosting a show for MTV India. Though he found her dazzling, he didn't fancy her name. After re-christening her Mahima, Bollywood's legendary showman showcased her in 2003 blockbuster Pardes opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to capitalise on her dream debut innings. Malaika Arora Khan Acting is not up her alley, but dancing definitely is. Say hello to this MTV VJ-turned-item girl. When she was not dancing atop trains, she was busy doling out relationship advice in her popular chat show Love Line or fashion tips in Style Check. And she is also credited with lending a certain credibility and respectability to hip thrusts. Anusha Dandekar The Sudan-born, Australian-bred Indian actress is an MTV VJ who landed in Mumbai to become a hairdresser. But instead of snipping hair, she found herself acting in films including Mumbai Matinee and Virudh opposite John Abraham. She's still waiting for her big break. Cyrus Sahukar He started his career by mocking Bollywood personalities and films by fronting spoof show Rendezvous with Semi Girebaal — a funny take on chat show by star Simi Garewal and MTV Fully Faltoo. But now he's desperately trying to be a part of that world. Playing the rich brat Randhir Ghambir in Aisha and taking on the role of a sleazy photographer in Delhi 6 are a part of his learning curve. Purab Kohli Kohli has done it all with aplomb. Be it selling toothpaste or pizza with a smile or playing the charming musician in Rock On!!. His stint in tween-drama Hip Hip Hurray also got him rave reviews. However, we are yet to see him in solo projects. Sophie Chaudhry The London-bred Chaudhry appears in all the style pages but she wasn't able to make inroads into Bollywood films. Despite featuring in a handful of Bollywood films such as Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Heyy Baby and Kidnap, none of her performances left any lasting impression. The same couldn't be said about her solo singing career. Her album Baby Love, released in 2003, was warmly welcomed. Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey Here are two talents who have enjoyed tremendous success in both television and cinema. While they started their career by anchoring Oye on Channel V together, they did not goof around in films. Their iconic 2007 hit Bheja Fry opened their Bollywood account. Amrita Arora This former MTV VJ followed in her sister Malaika Arora Khan's footsteps. But instead of concentrating on dancing, she attempted acting. After her debut debacle Kitne Door Kitne Paas, the diminutive actress shed her virginal image and featured in the lesbian drama Girlfriend. She topped her acting account with supporting roles in flops such as Kambhakkt Ishq. Currently, she has hung up her designer boots and is now a doting mother. Aditya Roy Kapur He started off as VJ for Channel V and was known for his witty persona. But his first love was always Bollywood. He took the plunge with London Dreams and took on supporting roles in Action Replayy and Guzaarish. In Guzaarish, Kapur played the apprentice magician to Ethan Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan) with aplomb. Currently, he's working on Ayaan Mukherjee's Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. From: Gulfnews
