Egyptian actress Mona Zaki refused to justify her recent remarks made on the entertainment show “Nawarat” (Shinning) with host Wafa Al Kilani on the Arab satellite channel MBC stating that ‘Egypt has become Muhajaba (referring to the Islamic headdress worn by Muslim women). The remarks made by Mona gave rise to controversy among active members on the internet social networks Facebook and Twitter as many interpreted her remarks as her way of rejecting the idea of hijab (Islamic headdress), and others considered her making direct attacks against Islamic political parties, who are currently gaining more power in Egypt. According to the internet website MBC.net, Mona said that a copy of the episode she was on is available on the internet and anyone can easily watch it more closely to understand the real meaning of what she had said. She stressed that she does not feel she is obliged to explain her remarks over and over so people know the extent of her devotion to Islam and God. Muna added that her religious beliefs are a personal matter between her and God and it is of no one’s business to interfere in such matters.
