Jakarta - UPI

Police in Indonesia say they are ready to safeguard U.S. singing star Lady Gaga if her concert in Jakarta actually takes place. About 2,000 officers were standing by to secure the planned concert in the capital, which has drawn the ire of Muslims who aren't exactly among the many "Little Monsters" that make up Gaga's devoted fan base. Friday prayers included sermons asking God to intervene with the National Police and convince them to deny the promoters a permit for the show, the Jakarta Post said. "With this prayer, let's ask God to strengthen the heart of the police so they will not be tempted with money, so they will not allow the concert," preached Fudloli Mohammad Ruham, a teacher at a Muslim school in the city. The newspaper said some conservative Islamist groups have bought up tickets for the show, presumably to keep Gaga's fans out of the seats. Others said they would even prevent the outlandish disco duchess from reaching the stadium where she is scheduled to perform. The show might not go on regardless. Police said the promoters have until Monday to file the necessary applications for a permit. "The promoter did not make any progress," police told the Jakarta Globe Friday. "We will see on Monday whether they have completed the requirements."
