Warda, the late Algerian singing superstar commissioned her own museum to display her dresses, it emerged yesterday. The legendary singer, Warda Al Jazairia (Warda, the Algerian Rose), was usually seen in glamorous floor-length outfits. In a career that spanned six decades, the diva was known for her jeweled purple and green creations, as well as for her soaring voice. The head of the Algerian National Bureau for Media and Culture, Lekhder Bin Turkey, confirmed that Warda had commissioned the museum prior to her death in Cairo earlier this month: “[She] asked me five years ago to a have her own museum to display the best dresses of her career… unfortunately; she died before completing this project, so it’s for her heirs to decide, because the dresses belong to them now.” He said. The singer was also a famously loyal supporter of her country, often choosing to sing on an Algerian stage, despite the ongoing violence during the years. Warda’s daughter in law, Lamia, revealed to Al Arabia.net that Warda asked to be moved to Algeria in the last moments of her life. According to her, the singer’s last words were: “I don’t want to wait any longer, I want to go back to Algeria immediately” She died aged 72 from a heart attack earlier this month.
