At least 12 suspected militants were killed and 15 others wounded as security forces' jets pounded militant hideouts in Khyber Agency tribal region of northern Pakistan bordering Afghanistan, said reports on Tuesday.
The local media quoted security officials as saying that the air strikes targeted the hideouts of the banned outfits in Tor Darra, Sur Kas, Wachay Wanny, Dwa Thoe, Sra Wela and Sra Khawra areas of Khyber region.
They confirmed that five hideouts were destroyed in the early morning air strikes killing at least 12 militants. The death toll could rise as many among the injured were reported critical and many militants were supposed to be buried under the rubble of their destroyed hideouts.
The air strikes are a continuation of the military operation launched in Pakistanآ’s tribal areas against the foreign and local militants.
In the wake of Peshawar massacre and governmentآ’s plan to curb the menace of terrorism under National Action Plan (NAP), the security forces have accelerated the actions against militants in the tribal agencies.
