Islamabad - KUNA

Multiple blasts occurred in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi killed at least three people and wounded 20 others on Tuesday, officials said. According to police officials, three explosions took place in separate areas of Karachi, killing three people and wounding 20 others. Twin blasts struck the Orangi Town area of Karachi near an Imambargah (worship place of the Shiite community), killing three people and injuring 20 others. A remote-controlled bomb was detonated on MA Jinnah road of the city, but caused no injuries. Security forces, immediately, cordoned off the scene and a bomb disposal squad searched surrounding areas. Meantime, rescue teams shifted bodies and injured people to a nearby hospital. Security has been beefed up across Pakistan, especially in southern Karachi and eastern Rawalpindi cities, in a bid to foil possible violence during observance of Chehlum (40th day of martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain). On November 15, at least 11 people were killed and a market was burnt due to sectarian clashes that erupted in eastern Rawalpindi city as an Ashura (the day of martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain) procession in the main downtown area coincided with a sermon in a nearby mosque. Over 10,000 police and Rangers personnel have been deployed for security of main mourning processions in Karachi.
