Pakistan's army said Friday that it had successfully tested the launch of its first locally constructed armed drone and its laser-guided missiles, dpa reported.
Army chief General Raheel Sharif witnessed the launch of the Burraq drone and its Barq missile.
The unmanned aircraft can hit static and moving targets with 'pinpoint accuracy in all weathers,' said the army.
The army also issued a video of the aircraft taking off and firing missiles at a target.
Raheel said the testing was a 'great national achievement and momentous occasion' and it was 'force-multiplier in our anti-terror campaign.'
With the launch of armed drone, Pakistan has joined the ranks of nations with the capability to build unmanned military aircraft.
The country launched surveillance drones in 2013.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif applauded the launch and said the drone capability would add a new dimension to Pakistan's defence.
