Spokesman for the Libyan military engineering unit Ali Al Awamy said Monday 43 army engineers were killed and 27 others wounded in explosions of landmines, which were planted by terrorist groups in the city of Benghazi.
Al Awamy confirmed in a statement to the Libyan LANA news agency that the number of victims among civilians rose to 19 as a result of the mine explosions that occurred during the past 10 days.
He explained that civilian victims were mostly merchants and shop owners in Darnah Street.
The spokesman warned residents of Al Hoot market in Benghazi against returning to their homes before being declared mine-free by the Libyan armed forces.
He pointed out that the most dangerous places that citizens should avoid are Darna Street near the Anis hotel and the area between them, as well as the surrounding area.
In addition, he said the total number of mines defused by the members of the military engineering unit in the area near the Central Bank of Libya and Al Mahdawy Street reached 73 since the beginning of June and until mid July.
