Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit
Cairo - Arab Today

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit on Thursday welcomed an agreement made to announce a nationwide ceasefire in Syria.

In a statement, the Arab League chief said the situation in Syria is an important issue on the table of Arab states.

He hoped that the agreement would reflect a strong will to reach a political solution for the current crisis.

Having a stable ceasefire agreement is conditioned by the countries that endorsed the deal, he said.

Abul Gheit warned that some parties would work now on a demographic change in Syria by forced migration scenarios.

Also, he called for an international monitoring to guarantee commitment to the ceasefire deal.
