Cairo – Mohamed Alloush
After being declared 'best artist' by several Arab polls, as well as 'best singer for 2011', Lebanese Nawal Zoghbi was named 'female star of 2011' by a three-month-long poll conducted by Melody FM radio. Zoghbi received her award during a ceremony held at Le Royale Hotel, where she also received another award for ‘Alf w meya’ ('One Thousand and a Hundred'), the song written by Faris Iskandar, composed by Selim Salama, which audiences selected for best song of 2011. The Melody FM polls are solely dependent on the votes of the audience, which means Zoghbi warned her awards thanks to collective popular votes. Nawal showed up to the awards event in an elegant yellow dress, and sang her song ‘Maarafsh Leh’ ('I Don’t Know Why') live in front of her audience. She finally expressed her happiness and gratitude for receiving the awards, saying that popular appreciation means a lot to her, and stressing that she usually turns down paid awards.
