Three Niger policemen and a civilian were killed in an attack launched by armed gangs on a patrol in the desert on the borders with Algeria, Niger police announced.

Also, a policeman was injured during the attack, the spokesman for the police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The gunmen took a police car and a weapon, the statement added.
