Canadian federal police smashed a mafia drug trafficking ring with the arrest of 19 alleged high-ranking members of the Calabrian Ndrangheta criminal organization in a sweep, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Toronto area dragnet involving 260 officers is the culmination of a two-year investigation targeting "the highest levels" of the Ndrangheta, said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
