Ex-transport minister Soliman Metwaly died on Tuesday at the age of 90.
Born in 1927 in Monufia, Metwaly graduated from the engineering faculty of Cairo University in 1949.
He served at the Transport Ministry before joining the Armed Forces.
The former minister was appointed as the governor for Beni Suef then Monufia between 1977-1978.
He served as a state minister for the cabinet affairs from 1978 to 1980, and as transport minister from 1980 to1999.
Metwaly's tenure was marked by major achievements in the transport field, including the purchasing of the turbo train, laying the foundation stone of al Salam bridge and establishing the Metro Line 1 from Helwan to Ramsis.
