Prominent Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez was freed from jail Saturday and placed under house arrest, his Spanish lawyer said.

"Leopoldo Lopez is at his home in Caracas with (wife) Lilian and his children. He is not yet free but under house arrest. He was released at dawn," Javier Cremades said in news welcomed by Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
