Days before arriving in Beijing for meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Trump said the US trade deficit with China "has to come down."

"The problem we have with China is...it's been a very unfair trade situation. Our trade deficit is massive. It’s hundreds of billions of dollars a year," Trump said at a joint news conference in Tokyo alongside the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. "It has to come down. It has to come down."
