Cairo Criminal Court on Monday sentenced a reporter of Al Ahram news portal to one year in prison on charges of libeling former justice minister Ahmed el Zend during his presidency of the Egyptian Judges' Club.

Ahmed Abdel Azim Amer was charged with spreading fake news against Zend online.

The court referred a lawsuit for damage filed by Zend to a competent civil court for review.
