Flights resumed Wednesday at Rome's Fiumicino airport after smoke from a fire in a nearby pine grove temporarily grounded planes.

"Operations resumed at #Fiumicino", Italian airline giant Alitalia said on Twitter, as firefighters gained control of the blaze, which had seen clouds of dense smoke spread across the runways.
