South Korea is to fine Nissan for cheating on exhaust emissions tests, bringing the Japanese carmaker into a widening global scandal that has already ensnared Volkswagen and Mitsubishi.

"Our investigation... concluded that Nissan illegally manipulated emission data," the environment ministry in Seoul said in a statement.
