Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and Chairman of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, has praised the UAE’s active role in supporting the F1 Grand Prix in Azerbaijan and the great efforts made by the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE, ATCUAE, marshals who represent the country internationally and contribute to the transfer of knowledge.
He also appreciated the continuous efforts made by the ATCUAE in providing the required training to its marshals.
"We provided the required support to organisers of the F1 in Baku this month. Our volunteers are highly experienced in the organisation of such events, and we always make sure to develop their skills and train them according to the highest international standards," said Mohammed Bin Sulayem, President of ATCUAE and the Emirates Motor Sport Federation.
The ATCUAE provided its expertise to organisers of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, which took place from 23rd to 25th of June in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku. A team of 27 marshals from the ATCUAE was present in Baku to support the event. This included 16 experienced recovery marshals, as well as pitlane and trackside marshals.
The UAE Motorsport Marshals’ Club has over 2,700 volunteers of different nationalities who reside in the UAE and actively participate in the management and organisation of different motorsport events. Since 2012, the ATCUAE has provided training in 20 countries in South America, Africa, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
The Club has offered 29 different training courses in seven languages: Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian and Ukrainian. In addition, more than 1,000 volunteers have been trained annually since 2009 to manage the F1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.
The success of the Club over the past years has been recognised by the F?d?rationInternationale de l'Automobile, FIA, which has awarded the members thrice with the best volunteer awards. In 2015, the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge Sweep Team won the award for the best team of officials for the fourth time in recognition of its efforts in safely removing all competitors from the desert year after year.
