Russia will make their first ever final appearance at the World Curling Championships after they overcame Sweden 9-3 in the semifinal here on Saturday.
In Sunday's final, Russia will have a play-offs rematch against Canada, who have kept unbeaten here while Sweden will vie for the bronze medal with Scotland.
After a 3-all in the first six ends, Russia took the game by the scruff of the neck in the seventh and eighth ends, scoring three points in the seventh and stole another three in the eighth to take a 9-3 lead, which forced the Swedish girls to give up the last two ends.
"The victory today was exciting, we made it into the play-offs as the second-placed team and after beating Sweden we can go for the gold medal, it's our first time," said Anna Sidorova, the skip of Russian team.
"The final is our third game with Canada at the championships, no matter what the result is, it's a breakthrough for us. But we will try, why not the gold medals," she added.
