The second edition of Bahrain Open MMA Amateur Championship, which is under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Honorary President of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF), is to be held from 16-19 August at Riffa Hall.
His Highness said that this championship comes to complete the developing strategy that was put in order to improve combat sports under the umbrella of the Federation, which are Mixed martial arts (MMA), boxing, wrestling, kickboxing, and muay Thai by spreading it across local sports. This contributes in increasing the participation of youths in Bahrain and encouraging youths that play these sport, according to His Highness Shaikh Khalid.
The main aim of the plan that was put is to have national teams that can represent the Kingdom in various regional and international events, His Highness added.
His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa said: “The second edition of the Bahrain Open MMA Championship will enhance our goals and aspirations that help our efforts to improve combat sports in Bahrain as well as at the regional, Arab, and continental levels since the Kingdom, with the support of the wise leadership and the follow-up and efforts of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), has taken important steps to enhance these sports.”
His Highness praised the efforts of BMMAF under the leadership Colonel Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Khayat to prepare and hold the championship, which reflects the keen interest of the Federation in implementing programs that will help in improving the level of combat sports.
At the same time, His Highness wished all the best to all the participating teams, fighters, and participants in this edition.
