Youth and Sport Affairs Minister Hesham bin Mohammed Al Jowder said choosing “Youth Building Peace” as a theme for the International Youth Day 2017 by the United Nations and linking it to the sustainable development goals is a clear assertion of the growing importance given by the international organisation to the role of the youth in achieving the sustainable development goals and fast-tracking global growth.

In a statement marking the International Youth Day, the minister said the youth represent more than half the world population and all countries are looking at them with a hope for a brighter future to this world. He stressed growing awareness of the international community of their needs and potentials which are the pillar of development and success. He also pointed out the ability of the international youth to change the way how they are looked at in a short period of time by becoming the catalyst of sustainable development in the world. He also affirmed the key role played by the youth in tackling various issues like promoting global peace, ending conflicts and renouncing violence and extremism.

The Youth and Sport Affairs Minister underlined the international trend relying on the youth in drawing a roadmap to achieve the sustainable development goals and peace in the world. He noted that stability and peace in the world depend on engaging the youngsters in all solutions related to that. He said peace yearned for by all requires a strong will to give the youth a bigger role to achieve it. He also pointed out the ability of the international youth movement to withstand conflicts in fostering peace, security and co-existence.

The minister called on the Bahraini youth to interact positively with all international initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development, security and peace.
