Oman's melodious winner

Oman's melodious winner of Indian reality show Dil Hai Hindustani, Haitham Mohammed Rafi, has dedicated his win to his mother.
 

Haitham made history at the weekend by winning the show that had contestants from various countries across the globe participating in it.

On Saturday he left the stage a winner, clutching his trophy and a cash prize of approximately OMR14,800.

Haitham the personal banker turned superstar, said 'By the kind of support I was receiving from people around the world and Oman during my arrival last week, I had hopes inside me but it was just a dream to win”.

"I am dedicating this to my mom who supported me throughout my career even when I left my job to participate in the competition."

The 23-year-old was the first finalist after being a wildcard entry who got eliminated a few weeks before the grand finale.

"I remember when I got eliminated it was very tough. And then when they selected me in wildcard I was so happy."

He added he recalled the disheartening moment when he had strange thoughts wrecking his mind, "Khallas Haitham, I thought, I have to go back to Oman and don’t know what to do now."

Now a winner he excited about seeing his fans’ response both in Oman as well as in India.

"I am unable to explain the love and blessing showered upon me. I wish I could meet each of them and thank them from the bottom of my heart for the outstanding support."

Haitham said the show has kick-started his career in the music industry in the best possible way having been trained by some of the best instructors.

"We have vocal teachers and diction teachers. We take classes from morning until night. I now know Indian sargam and raags. For me DHH is like music school."

The show’s judges included acclaimed filmmaker Karan Johar, rapper Badshah, music director Shekhar Ravijani, and singer Shalmali Kholgade. Even before winning the contest he was offered shows in various countries and even bollywood films.

"I have lot of concerts in the near future across the globe but the first one I want to dedicate for the people of Oman, which will happen on 14th of April at the Al Bustan Palace. I have also been offered to sing in many Bollywood movies, so inshallah, I am looking forward to take anything what the almighty is offering."

Haitham Mohammed Rafi is an Omani talent that has managed to put the Sultanate in the world map when it comes to music. The proud winner known for his humility and simplicity among his fans repeats what he has been saying all throughout the show, "I am Omani but Dil Hai Hindustani."
