he capacity of the Hamriyah Station

The capacity of the Hamriyah Station for Power Generation and Water Desalination in Sharjah was increased by 28 per cent in 2015, thanks to the use of advanced technology and innovative maintenance.

When completed, the plant which opened earlier this year will produce 2500 MW of electricity and 140 million gallons of water per day to meet increasing demand in the emirate, Dr Obaid Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) said.

Today, the Hamriyah station, designed to be the emirate's largest power generation and water desalination plant, produces 20 million gallons of desalinated water per day.

The total water desalination capacity of Sharjah currently stands at 110 million gallons per day.

Faisal Al Serkal, Director of the production of water desalination at the Sewa, said the water desalination capacity of the Hamriyah plant is expected to increase by 25 per cent in 2016.
