Kuwait - KUNA
A committee on protecting wildlife in the Kuwait Wildlife Protection Society underscored here on Saturday the importance of forming a group of university graduates who are specialists in the environmental issue to become ready for performing environmental police work.
The Interior Ministry has recently announced the formation of an environmental police body.
Committee Chairman Dr. Manaf Behbehani said in a statement to KUNA that the committee praises the Interior Ministry's decision to create the environmental police, which comes in implementation of the Environmental Protection Act No. 42 of 2014, stressing that this decision is an important step in the field of environmental protection in the State of Kuwait, which suffers from increasing environmental deterioration due to the lack of respect for the protection of the environment and malpractice.
He said he is pleased along with the members of the committee to see the fruit of their efforts becoming a reality, pointing out that the past years have shown that awareness and knowledge of the need to protect environment were not enough, stressing there are many people abusing the environment due to the lack of power and laws to stop them.
