Twenty-two people trapped in their vehicles by the rising floodwaters in Ghardaia (600-km south of Algiers), following the torrential rains that hit the region during the night of Friday to Saturday, were rescued by the Civil Defence units. Heavy rains pounded Ghardaia causing traffic disruption particularly in the M’Zab Valley, Berriane, Guerrara and Metlili.
