Al Ain - Arabstoday
Partly cloudy weather and lightning is expected over the weekend following Wednesday\'s scattered thunderstorms across the country. Residents in some parts the country enjoyed nature as it put on a show inclusive of lightning, rain, hail and strong winds. After a quick build-up, the rapidly changing nature of the weather system even made it difficult for meteorologists to forecast. People in Fujairah and neighbouring Oman also reported hail and flash floods. Weather conditions were pretty bad in Oman where many low-lying areas were inundated by flash floods. The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), said 22 millimetres of rain fell over Al Qou, a town in the south of Al Ain, followed by 11.6mm over Mazyed Al Ain, 11.4mm over Al Faqqa, 8.2mm over Umm Al Zamool, 5mm over Al Shouaib, 3.8mm over Hameem, 3.6mm over Al Khazna, and 3.4mm over Jebel Hafeet. The occurence of rain forced temperatures to drop slightly across the country. The conditions also kept on changing over other internal and coastal areas as strong winds kicked up sand and dust. Visibility dropped in many areas. The NCMS said the weather will be partly cloudy today in general. Daytime temperatures are likely to increase especially in the western region. Moderately rough winds Winds are expected to be moderately rough and will likely strengthen at times, picking up dust and sand and reducing horizontal visibility in the open land areas. Conditions at sea are expected to be moderately rough. The weather is expected to be fair to partly cloudy and hazy at times tomorrow.
