Poaching, hunting, rampant local and global trade in animals and their body parts and human encroachment by way of commercial activity are among the major challenges that wildlife has to contend with. Wildlife's sorry state of affairs was detailed during a lecture delivered by well-known environmental expert, Abdulaziz Al Midfa, who has extensive experience in wildlife and conservation. The talk organised by Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), was the 150th such open-to-all lecture put together by them, a tradition which began in 1992. This May's lecture — entitled ‘Wonderful Wildlife' — drew the audience's attention to the state of wildlife globally and locally. Legally, ‘Wildlife' is categorised as all living things that are neither human nor domesticated. Such category of living beings is not considered human property. Wildlife, therefore, cannot be controlled and dominated by humans, Al Midfa stressed. From The Gulf Today
