Motorists involved in minor accidents or who face car trouble will not have to worry about spending so much on those immediate repairs.
On its official Instagram account on Wednesday, the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi announced that it will provide road assistance to motorists for free.
“The department will offer road-side assistance in Abu Dhabi free of charge. The service to repair technical or mechanical failures will be available around the clock,” said the transport department.
The department urged motorists to avail the service by calling 800 888 88 or 999.
“The new service is part of Abu Dhabi’s vision to improve traffic flow and infrastructure in the emirate,” it said.
The Road Service Patrol, according to the organisation’s website, includes towing cars from the main road and moving them to safer locations to ensure the safety of drivers and the smooth flow of traffic.
Patrols are also equipped to assist broken down vehicles and offer services such as changing tyres, identifying a flat battery, jumpstarting and topping up the fuel and coolant if needed. The service will also enable vehicles to reach the closest petrol station in the area.
“The patrol also provides first aid to accident victims and assisting the police and other related parties during road crashes,” it added.
What to do in a traffic accident
Call the police on 999 from anywhere in the UAE
Inform them about the accident, mention your location and wait for their instructions. No traffic incident in the UAE can go unreported.
If it is a minor accident and no one is hurt, move your car to the shoulder lane to avoid blocking traffic. Wait for the police at least 15 metres away from your vehicle.
If you or anybody involved in the accident sustains injuries, it is best to leave all vehicles exactly where they are, and wait for an ambulance to arrive.
