Lamborghini's latest concept car, the Asterion LPI-910 achieves a rare and sought after feat in the automotive world, a supercar with overwhelming power and speed with a fuel-efficient and eco-friendly hybrid engine.
Unveiled Tuesday at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Lambo's groundbreaking all wheel drive car packs an enormous 897 horsepower V10 engine that can go from zero-60 in three seconds flat and capable of speeds up to 199 mph Despite the massive amount power produced, the Asterion's fuel efficiency clocks in at 57 miles of gas per gallon with C02 emissions of 98 g/km.
The Asterion is able to generate so much power without sacrificing fuel efficiency by simultaneously deriving 602 hp from the V10 engine and 295 hp from the supercar's lithium-ion powered electric motors. Running only on those electric motors, the Asterion can travel up to 78 mph with no adverse effects on the environment.
Although Lamborghini only released the Asterion a "technology demonstrat[ing]" concept car for now, according to Road and Track, "Our understanding is that the hybrid powertrain being showcased here is intended for full production use -- not as a limited-run experiment."
