The Syndicate of Journalists board renewed on Monday commitment to the press code of ethics.
In a statement following a meeting that was attended by the chief editors of newspapers, the council hailed the Egyptian judiciary as "the fortress protecting freedoms including the freedom of the press."
They attendees asserted that "the door of dialogue is still open."
A national committee will finalize within days a draft law on press to include what is stated in the Constitution in this regard, said the statement.
The council called for allowing journalists to get information without any hurdles.
They demanded that the syndicate be informed in advance of any journalist to be interrogated by the prosecution.
