Khartoum - MENA
The Federation of Arab Journalists (FAJ) on Sunday stressed the importance of developing legislation and laws that protect the freedom of press.
The union made the remarks in a meeting of the Freedoms Committee of the Arab Journalists Union held on Sunday in the Sudanese capital.
A collective Arab commitment to the legislation should be seen according to the international conventions on civil and political rights, the union said.
However, the meeting stressed that the freedom of press should not be absolute, as the Arab nationalism and values as well as the global regulations governing the press should be respected.
