Ramallah - WAFA
Peruvian reporter Susana Diaz Monday expressed anger at Israeli army raids against religious sites, mainly the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. Diaz, media director at the official Peruvian newspaper El-Peruano, arrived for the first time in Palestine to attend WAFA’s 40 years anniversary celebrations and visited, along with other international visitors, the cities of Bethlehem, Hebron and Jericho. Diaz acknowledged what she described as “intense difficulties” Palestinians face daily from the Israeli occupation, making special reference to the Apartheid Wall that “imprisons everyone.” She said that Palestinian stories of life under Israeli occupation are hard to forget and will live in the memory of everyone who sees them. She praised the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and described him as a “leader for freedom” and a “symbol of liberty.” Diaz noted WAFA’s enormous effort to reach readers around the world by publishing news in three languages – Arabic, English and Hebrew - but prompted WAFA to also start publishing in Spanish to reach readers in Latin America.
