The Supreme Council of Universities said Saturday that the academic year would start on September 16.

The council made the remarks during a meeting that was started by observing a minute of silence to pay tribute to the victims of the recent Alexandria train crash.

Minister of Higher education Khaled Abdel Ghafar attended the meeting along with the Council's acting secretary general Youssef Rashid.
