Woman has died following a dog attack

A British woman living in Kenya was on Wednesday mauled to death by her own dogs in coastal town of Malindi.

Police said the deceased Elizabeth Claire Wright was attacked as she arrived home by the two dogs that killed her instantly.

Head of Tourism Police Unit for Coast region Sicharani Wilberforce said they have launched investigation into the incident.

"The dogs were set free by the husband and attacked her when she opened the gate. She was overpowered and mauled to death," Sicharani said.

Sicharani said the deceased sustained deep body injuries and succumbed to injuries as she was being rushed to hospital. The husband Fred Karisa has so far recorded statement with the police.

Police have so far contacted the British embassy in Nairobi to help inform the family members about the sadden death.

Sicharani said the late Wright was legally married to Kenyan and stayed in the country for more than 30 years.

British and Germany governments have in the past raised concern over the mysterious death of their citizens in the East African nation.

Sources indicate that some foreigners are killed by close family members for wealth heritage.
