Minister of Investment Sahar Nasr inaugurated Tuesday a workshop entitled “Empowering Women” in the presence of head of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsi and head of the Central Authority for Organization and Administration Mohamed Gamil.
Nasr indicated that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi declared 2017 to be “the year of women” in recognition of their key role in society as well as their awareness that was reflected by their effective participation in politics.
She added that comprehensive development cannot be achieved in the society without women’s positive participation. On that score, the minister called on the NCW’s head Maya Morsi to engage in further cooperation with the ministry with the aim of supporting women.
Women are the backbone of development for developing countries, especially in Egypt and the African continent as whole, where women represent more than 49 percent and 50 percent of the total population respectively, Nasr stressed.
The Egyptian government is working on creating equal opportunities for males and females via enacting laws protecting women and helping businesswomen inject investments, she said, noting that this will in turn contribute to backing Egypt’s economy.
Meanwhile, Nasr revealed that Egypt was selected by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development to host a forum on women’s economic empowerment during the last quarter of 2017 in recognition of Cairo’s efforts to empower women.
