Tehran - FNA
A large number of the Palestinian children held in Israeli prisons are being subjected to torture and abuse, a Palestinian official said.
"Around 100 children being held in this jail (Ofer) are in need of medical and psychological attention as they are being kept in bad conditions and being abused and tortured by the Israeli guards," Rami al-Alami, who supervises Palestinian children at the Ofer Israeli military prison, said, press tv reported.
The imprisoned children are even denied their basic rights, including education, proper treatment and medical care, he noted.
Nearly 250 Palestinian minors are currently imprisoned in three separate Israeli jails.
Officials say Israeli authorities try children in military courts, just like adult detainees, that as they say in contradiction to international law.
In the latest related case, the Israeli army on Thursday shot dead Bahaa Sameer Badir, a 13-year-old Palestinian boy, in the occupied West Bank.
Meanwhile, Gaza Health officials say at least 577 children were killed and more than 3,374 others injured during the Israel’s 50-day onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip which started in early July.
The Israeli regime is under fire for its violent treatment of Palestinian children in blatant violation of international law. Tel Aviv has frequently arrested Palestinian children without giving a reason for the detention.
