New York - KUNA
Kuwait has voiced support for the UN effort aimed at boosting gender equality and enabling women to be active in various sectors.
Aiding women to make political accomplishments at the economic and political levels can be in various forms; either via direct access to resources or through facilitating their employment in the public and private sectors, or providing them with social protection, said Alyaa Abdullah Al-Muzaini, Kuwait's diplomatic attache serving with the mission at the UN.
Al-Muzaini was addressing a UN General Assembly's session, on boosting gender equality and enabling women and girls to be effective as part of an aspired post-2015 scheme.
Kuwait believes that social security is a basic right for citizens, a key factor for families' stability, she said, noting that Kuwait had taken strides on this path, paving the way for the female citizens not only to be hired, but also to launch enterprise.
The Kuwaiti diplomat noted that inequality between the two sexes hindered the women quest to play full role in sustainable development, calling for action to remove obstacles obstructing their bids to have full participation in decision making and administration.
She called on the international organization to craft a post-2015 strategy aimed at ensuring a better future for women and girls.
