Cairo - MENA
Security forces on Sunday dispersed limited protests carried out by Azhar female students with affiliations to the blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood group at Azhar branch in Nasr City.
Sources at the university said female students gathered after noon prayers in front of the Human and Arab Studies Faculty and chanted slogans against security forces and the university administration.
The protesters demanded the release of their detained colleagues and attempted to leave the campus to block roads, but security forces intervened to disperse them.
A reliable source at Azhar University said the protests did not impede classes.
In the meantime, a state of cautious calm prevailed at Azhar boys' faculties at Nasr City and Darasa campuses.
Azhar University President Abdel Haei Azzab urged students to abide by the university regulations and regularly attend their classes.
