Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers on Thursday welcomed a request that the Algerian city of Constantine, 2015 Capital of Arab Culture, will host the Arab Stamp Exhibition next year. Wrapping up their 18th session in Cairo today, the ministers tasked the Council's Technical Secretariat with arranging the event with the Algerian Post.
Meanwhile, the Council issued a decision for introducing the Arabic language to the Arab Postal Union, as one of the sixth official languages at the UN. It urged its Executive Secretariat to submit results of relevant contacts to the coming meeting of the Council.
The session also urged the Arab states to effectively take part in the preparatory group for the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) due in 2017.
Meanwhile, the ministerial council urged the Arab League Secretary General to carry on with contacts with president of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to follow up implementation of resolution on Palestine, especially dispatching a fact-finding committee in a bid to guarantee Palestinians' right to have direct access to the global communications and IT services.
