Samsung revealed Tuesday the Galaxy S5 Mini smartphone, which will have a similar design and features like its larger cousin but will not be as powerful.
The 4.5 inch S5 Mini will come with the same perforated pattern on the back and will include a fingerprint scanner, heart-rate monitor and inter-operability with Gear Fit and other Samsung wearables. The phone will run on Android 4.4 KitKat and will come with a 1.5 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, which wil be expandable to 64GB.
The phone will sport an AMOLED screen with 1,280x720-pixels of resolution, which is not as good as the S5's but is still 326 pixels per inch, as good as Apple's iPhones with Retina display. It will also have an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera and will come with al the regular Samsung photo software.
The device will come in four colors: Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue, or Copper Gold.
U.S. buyers will have to wait as the phone will be sold only in Russia before rolling out in other countries. Samsung hasn't announced pricing for the phone but analysts expect it will be similar to the Galaxy S4 Mini, which was around the $400.
Tuesday's announcement comes a day after Samsung said it will launch four new low-cost phones: the Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Star 2, Galaxy Ace 4, and Galaxy Young 2.
