Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Araby

The Arab League (AL) and the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) agreed on promoting joint cooperation in the cultural and educational fields.

They discussed working on protecting heritage and archaeological sites in the violence-hit countries in the region.

These remarks came during the meeting held between AL Secretary General Nabil el Araby and the UNESCO Head Irina Bokova on Thursday in the AL's headquarters.

In press statements, el Araby underlined the importance of this get-together.

Concerning the violations of Israel and Daesh against the archaeological sites in Palestine, Iraq, Syria and Yemen, the AL chief said that the violations in general were discussed during the meeting.

For her part, Bokova said that there are ventures between the two institutions, noting that the meeting took up the importance of protecting the youth from the extremist ideas and paying attention to education.

She further underscored the need to spread peace, ending disputes and achieving economic development.
