Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb met on Wednesday with a delegation of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA).

They discussed during the meeting ways of spreading health awareness in the Islamic societies.

"Azhar is keen to serve people in all fields, not just education," he said, adding that the world's highest Sunni institution will provide every possible support to eradicate dangerous diseases, especially polio.

He also thanked WHO for its efforts to eradicate polio in Egypt and the whole world, calling for more efforts at the international level to fight other epidemics, such as Ebola and Hepatitis C virus.
