Al Azhar University on Monday strongly denounced attacks targeting policemen and troops, calling on all Egyptians to stand united in the face of terrorism.

"Terrorism is not targeting policemen and troops only but all Egyptians," the university's council said in a statement.

It also slammed media campaign against Azhar's Grand Imam and Azhar scholars.

"The Grand Imam is a symbol for all Muslims around the globe," it said.
