The Ministry of Antiquities, in coordination with the Tourism and Antiquities Police, launched a large campaign to remove encroachments in Sahara City district outside the Pyramid's antiquities area.

The campaign included the removal of a number of huts and cafes established in violation of state laws in the wake of the January revolution in 2011.
