Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam said that the Islamic nation is in dire need of spreading the values of tolerance and dialogue to face waves of extremism.
Giving a word on the occasion of the "conquest of Mecca" on the 20th of Ramadan, Allam said that the life of Prophet Muhammad gives a role model of tolerance and forgiveness.
The Mufti also cited Prophet Muhammad's words when he turned to the people of Mecca and said:"O Quraysh, what do you think of the treatment that I should accord you?"
And they said, "Mercy, O Prophet of Allah. We expect nothing but good from you." Thereupon Muhammad declared: "I speak to you in the same words as Yūsuf spoke to his brothers. This day there is no reproof against you; Go your way, for you are free."
He concluded his word by saying that the greatest victories and conquests of Muslims were during the blessed month of Ramadan, a matter that proved that Ramadan is the month of hard work and diligence and not laziness.
