Kuwait - KUNA
The Peru-Kuwait Cultural Forum has honored His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah after the UN named him a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait a "Humanitarian Center." Advisor at the Amiri Diwan Mohammad Abdullah Abul-Hassan represented His Highness the Amir in the ceremony held at Al-Babtain Central Library for Arabic Poetry in Kuwait Wednesday evening.
Addressing the event, His Highness the Amir's representative expressed gratitude for the ceremony and stressed the distinguished ties with Peru. Then he was handed over a souvenir.
Peruvian Ambassador Heli Pelaez Castro addressed the gathering expressing pleasure for attending the first cultural forum between the two countries.
Under His Highness the Amir, the State of Kuwait has played a remarkable role supporting humanitarian issues, assisting dozens of thousands of people and setting a role model for others to take part in an international coordinated action, Castro said.
He added that his country appreciates the unlimited assistance of His Highness the Amir and the State of Kuwait to the afflicted and suffering people around the globe.
Then Abdulrahman Khalid Al-Babtain addressed the ceremony on behalf of Abdulaziz Al-Babtain, head of the board of trustees of the Foundation of Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain's Prize for Poetic Creativity.
He spoke of Peru as having one of the ancient civilizations on earth, and highlighted the historical ties between South America and the Arab World, dating back to centuries as many Arabs migrated to the continent and settled there, he said.
Al-Babtain noted that many of the top Arab writers, poets and men of letters found a fertile land in Latin America where they produced some of the major literary works in Arabic literature.
He also said that the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir and the State of Kuwait is in fact honoring humanity as "humanitarian work is universal." According to Al-Babtain, the Foundation will devote a separate event for the unique honoring of His Highness the Amir.
Chairman of the Kuwaiti Gulf Group for Administration and Economic Consulting Mustafa Behbehani also addressed the event thanking the leading poet and cultural figure Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain for hosting the ceremony.
Behbehani said that one of the issues raised by the Peru-Kuwait Cultural Forum is the convergence between civilizations and cultures, which he believes requires more efforts to be developed in the future. He also referred to the lack of information regarding the effect of Arab culture on Latin America.
For long years, His Highness the Amir has been extending humanitarian aid and donations to people all over the world, following in the steps of his predecessors from Al-Sabah family , which made of Kuwait a "Humanitarian center."
