Kuwaitis took seven accolades at Al-Thani Photography Awards organised by the Qatar Photographic Society in cooperation with the official global photography body FIAP on Saturday.
In the General Awards Section, Mohammad Khorshid took first place and the FIAP gold medal in the Digital Files category for his photograph, "one eye on you," while Abdulaziz Kanaan, who was first in Monochrome Prints for "future look" took the FIAP bronze medal.
In the Middle East Awards, Nasser Al-Humaidi took first in Colour Prints for "true love" and an FIAP gold medal, with Hamad Salman, first in Digital Files also taking an FIAP gold medal for "the golden way." Meanwhile, in the Al-Thani Gold Medals Worldwide section, Ali Al-Qazwini took fourth in the Digital Files category for his "queen of the sun," with Mohammsd Yousef taking the Jury Members Personal Hoang Trung Thuy Award for "only me" and Kuwait Lighthouse receiving a Top 10 Photo Club medal.
The awards were praised by Qatar's Minister of Culture Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, who congratulated the Kuwaiti people on the accomplishments, he regarded as "extremely crucial" to photographers worldwide.
"This is not strange to Kuwaitis," he said, "who usually stand out as excelling in creativity, art and culture." The minister added that the competition's upcoming tenth edition in 2015 will assume the name of its founder Sheikh Saud bin Mohammad Al-Thani.
