The inscription of the S'beiba ritual and ceremonies of the region of Djanet (Illizi), on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity is a "recognition" of the role of this ritual in the dialogue and the social cohesion by contributing to peace and mutual respect among the communities, said Wednesday foreign ministry in a release.
S'beiba ritual was inscribed on Wednesday on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on the occasion of the ninth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which works are held in Paris from 24 to 28 November.
Moreover, this listing "encourages the preservation of Algeria's ancestral traditions, which ensures the visibility of the intangible cultural heritage in general," the same source underlined.
"Through this decision, the Committee also admits that the different safeguarding measures taken by Algeria encompass activities of research, documentation and dissemination which have been elaborated with the active participation of the community and the public institutions," the source concluded.
